Fitchville Pond / Yantic River
8/7/2010

After I cut the grass and had lunch I decided (on the spur of the moment) to go fishing. I have an agreement with the wife that if I'm in the kayak I will call every 3hrs (give or take). Got in the water around 1:30 pm. First I went to the same spot where I would eventually catch the 5lb'r, but came up with zip. Paddled over to the west as far as I could in the southern "fork" in the river without sticking to the mud and caught a couple of perch. Then went up and around into the northern "fork" toward the bridge. Came up with a small smallmouth and a bluegill. Started to head back and decided to drift east with the current and wind toward the dam. Came up empty. Started to paddle back, with the intention of heading home. Got to where I would eventually catch the 5lb'r and got a phone call. Didn't realize it was almost 6:30 pm. Talked to (or more correctly listened to) my wife about the 3hr drill, when she said, "stay out if you want, I'm just checking on your life insurance status". So I bumped my 2-horseshoe anchor back into the water, and after the second cast Big Larry shows up, hooks on and jumps clear of the water and I almost crapped my shorts! The rest of the story is now in my freezer!

Gardner Lake
Left work early on Wednesday 22 July, took kayak in at the north end near the little dam that lets out to Gardner Brook. Came up w/zip until I found a couple blue gill at the north end just on the north side of the dam between a downed tree and a dead muskrat. Nice smell.

Went again on Saturday (24th) put in the same place, but this time went south to the island, then across to a weedy inlet then back north to my starting point. came up empty except for a workout and a rain shower.

I think next trip will be to Williams Lake.

Kayaked around the north east edge of the lake, 1 LM Bass, 1 SM Bass, 6 pack (give or take) of Blue Gills, but nothing worth keeping. Next trip is (was) Gardner Lake.

Savin Lake
7/11/2010

Circumnavigated Savin Lake in the kayak, came up empty, except for the exercise. Northern most part of the lake is very weedy. Started out at about 9:00, left at about 2:00. Used a variety of spinners, etc. A few anglers caught small bass and bluegill from the shore. Next trip will be to Red Cedar Lake.

Fitchville Pond / Yantic River
7/1/2010

Started in Fitchville Pond, paddled up to the Yantic River Bridge off of Exit 23. Couldn't believe it, first cast with a white chatter bait, small pickerel, tossed him back. Paddled as far as I could go up the Yantic River. Caught 1 large mouth (about 1 pound) and a small rainbow trout (tossed him back). Need lots of practice filleting bass! Best part of the trip was the freedom the kayak gave me! I love it.

first time here, I figured the "Wee Pickerel" from below the dam may have mama/papa above the dam, nice day under the bridge off RT 2, Exit 23

Went to check out another spot, but always have the "gear" in the car. Yantic River Park off of Stockhouse Rd. Nice spot, upstream a couple of miles from where I have been going. Very little trash. Caught a Sunfish and a Small Mouth Bass on a plastic cricket. No pictures of the fish.
