Mild temperatures and recent rains have opened some of the area’s lakes, creating open water fishing conditions in some lakes and ponds within the warming influence of the coast.

Ice fishermen hate it. Anyone with a small boat can go to the same spots that would produce if there were some ice, and catch the same species of fish.

It’s still winter, despite the weather report earlier in the week predicting daytime temps in the mid 40s through the weekend. Right now, it’s creating potentially dangerous conditions on area lakes and ponds. To the north, there’s ice; around here to the coast, be very careful.

the water may be open but the fishing is lousy.
