Hey everybody. Bought a canoe this winter and have been looking for advice on good sites to fish within 45 minutes of West Hartford. We have tried a couple of times on the Farmington River near Simsbury, but have had little to no success there. Today, we are headed up to West Hill Pond, so hopefully they be biting!

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone on here had some solid advice on decent ponds/lakes/rivers where canoe fishing would be pretty successful.

Thanks in advance!

Halls pond in Ashford/Willington is a great place for your canoe, is not too big and not alot of engine boats. Plus the place has some monster bass, but on the downside it is overrun by pike Sad

West hill pond is a good option, Battison park in Farmington, and there are some little ponds in simsbury too but I don't know how are they called, the mouth of the Farmington river is a good spot too, remember to always use your live jacket and have fun.

Most likely Chain Pickerel as opposed to Northern Pike, same family, smaller cousin!

Thanks so much for all the feedback everybody. We actually checked out West Hill Pond 2 weekends ago. Great place but unfortunately the fish weren't biting for anybody that day. Halls Pond and Battery Park sound great!

Try Lake Winchester, perfect place for a canoe. Lots of bass just watch out for the stumps.
