| Went to the Pomperaug with two buddies the other day and had trout working but no hatch. Since they were slurping and I had no spinners I tried a #14 blue wing olive emerger but no luck. Lots of black ants and it was breezy but I didn't have any with me. So i went to old faithful since the rising was not constant and the opposite bank was undercut and deep I figured these trout may enjoy a #8 weighted gold ribbed dark hare's ear. BINGO !! Eight drifts through the hole produced a 14" rainbow,18" rainbow and the third fish, witnessed by my buddies, was a monster brookie easily a 3 lb+ fish. I tie all my own flies so i gave my two amigos each a hare's ear nymph and yes they both caught fish |
