Someone help I purchased a boat and trailer last year and have gotten rid of the boat but stil have the trailer. Someone from RI wants to purchase the trailer but i have no paperwork on it no vin # on trailer and cannot get in contact with the previous owner. Does anyone know how to sell this and/or reg it in another state.

Selling it out of state with no paperwork is a problem.
IMO you should register the trailer here in CT as a homemade trailer.
Once you have the registration then you can transfer it to the new owner.
That's how I have done it in the past.

home made trailers got to go to weathersfield to be inspected now. that tough one with no bill of sale from the past owner.

That'd be why its "home-made"

no,before you could go in tell them it home made, they issue a vin no. and give you a plate, no inspection

There has to be a way it can be registered.

I would say remove any decals of the manufacturer if any, remove any name or data plate and say it is home made, how can they prove otherwise?
Not like you are trying to get away from not registering it.

Enfield also does trailer inspections. epending on your loction you might try that. They usually are not as busy as weathersfield.
