A harbor seal that appears sick or injured was found this morning in a parking lot in Norwich.
The Department of Environmental Protection has been called for assistance for the seal which was barely moving. The seal is at Brown Memorial Park. There is a boat ramp nearby.
According to Fox 61's Nicole Jacobs at the scene, it is not uncommon for the seals to be in the area, but the fact that it appears to need attention is what is causing concern.
UPDATE
The DEP arrived on scene around 8:30am and the seal was picked up. The seal is currently with DEP. Members of the Mystic stranding team will pick up the seal and take it to the seal rescue clinic. They will assess its condition and determine if it needs treatment or can be released back into the wild.
UPDATE
The seal is presently undergoing a physical at Mystic Aquarium by their veterinarian team. An aquarium spokesperson says the female harp seal is a bit thin and not quite as alert as it should be. the team is checking to see what if any medical conditions it may be experiencing.
