The reefs off Watch Hill, the eastern tip of Fishers Island and the Race have schools of "albies" feeding on small butterfish. Anglers are reporting catches of the small tuna using small flies. One of the best and easiest to tie is a white estaz wolly bugger. A white marabou tail and either a cone head or small barbell eyes will provide the right amount of weight to mimick the butterfish. Tied on a size 2 hook its a simpe but effective pattern. I also prefer platium blonde or Agentine Blonde patterns tied on size 2 hooks for when the butterfish is small.
Soon peanut bunker will become the prevalent bait and we will need to switch strategies.
Anglers are reporting many "yahoos" on the water. "Be careful out there" No fish is worth your life!!!

Wading would be tough in the immediate area of the Watch Hill Light house. A little to the west is Napatee which is a long neck of sand and rocks. Albies will occasionally come within casting distance of the shore. The fall is also a good time for stripers at Napatee from the beach
