Charles River Falls, Watertown MA Fishing Report

Charles River Smallies!

It was so nice out I just had to give it a try. Waded out into the river about 12 feet, below the falls, and started chucking a t-rig 5" Kalin's Lunker Grub (bluegill color) right into the falls. Was only there for an hour but caught a couple of nice fish! First of the season! Too bad the weather won't stay this way.

  • Best one I caught @ Hemlock was by dragging a t-rigged green pumpkin & red tube right parallel to the bank. I caught another by swimming a firetiger swimbait (3") parallel to the bank. There are some pics on my profile of both of these. Give that technique a whirl. Good luck!

  • Ive hit the hemlock gorge on multiple occasions and have been skunked every time...ugh. Lots of people fishing for carp in that stretch though.

  • I keep meaning to get over to the Waltham section but never seem to make it. Only other spot I've tried is Hemlock Gorge in Newton where I've caught some decent largemouth.

  • You ever fish the Waltham part of the Charles River? If so do u have any suggestions as to where to go out there?

  • Yeah. I have a suspicion it's going to be dry & hot.

  • The Charles below the dam is about 36 inches below its normal level. This might be a real dry summer if we don't some rain.
