Accessing fishing spots

As I drive around I see good fishing spots, but getting there is difficult, there always seems to be a private drive sign or no fishing or the shore is very muddy, marshy, or high grass. How do people get to their spots? I want to establish new spots and experiment other than the popular spots where you have to compete and cross lines with people, any suggestions on how to access spots would be great, I fish the ct river and surrounding smaller rivers, thanks.
