Waterford - A 53-year-old man aboard a charter fishing boat died Saturday night of an apparent heart attack, according to town police.

Daniel Goodman, of Canaan, was aboard the Sunbeam Express, a 145-passenger fishing boat based at Mago Point in Waterford, when he collapsed about 8:30 p.m., said police Sgt. Ed Lougee. A doctor, who was also a passenger on the boat, pronounced Goodman dead as the boat was returning to port, Lougee said.

The crew of the Sunbeam Express reported the incident to the Coast Guard station in New Haven, which in turn notified Waterford police. The boat was met at the dock by Waterford police, a Coast Guard marine investigator, and representatives from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington, which will perform an autopsy, Lougee said
