I am a U.S.C.G. licensed CT fishing charter captain and co-owner/operator of Kingfisher Charters the past 20 years. I have been fishing Long Island sound and the surrounding waters for the past 40 years. A life- long fisherman, my extensive experience includes catching inshore local species (Striped Bass, Bluefish, Fluke, Sea Bass, Scup, and Blackfish), offshore species (Tuna, Shark, Marlin, Mahi-Mahi, and Wahoo), and fish from the waters of the Caribbean and Central America (Tarpon, Snook, Sailfish, Grouper, Snapper, Barracuda and many others).

General Info

Interests
My favorite type of fishing has always been targeting larger fish with big live baits. That is why the Kingfisher is one of the few charter boats in CT that specializes in using live bunker and has become known as a top producer of trophy sized Stripers (28 fish over 50lbs.) and monster Bluefish. I believe in providing trips that allow the customers to hook, fight, and land fish with lighter tackle. Years of experience have taught me how to recognize the specific needs of each group and customize charters for the most enjoyable fishing trips possible. My passion, competitive nature, and enjoyment for helping others catch the fish of a lifetime is what motivates me to be the best and most productive captain on the water every trip.

Fishing Rods
The Preferred fishing equipment used on the Kingfisher includes Diawa Sealine high speed and Penn Squal conventional reels for bottom fishing along with Diawa and Penn reels for casting. All reels are loaded with Power Pro braid in the 30-65lb rating. Rods are made by Tsunami, Shakespeare, and Penn. We use the lightest gear that will also stand up to the exceptionally larger fish we target. The variety of equipment aboard the Kingfisher allows us to employ every type of sportfishing technique (bottom fishing, casting, and trolling). Terminal tackle/rigs are made with the highest quality Gamakatsu and Mustad hooks connected to custom made rigs designed for specifically targeting each species of fish and the various techniques employed. We have all the bases covered!
Fishing Techniques
Half day fishing charter trips in Long Island Sound consists of 5 hours of fishing for the targeted species. You can choose to target gamefish- Stripers, Bluefish and False Albacore, or bottom fish- Fluke, Sea Bass, Scup, or Blackfish. The most popular trip is drift fishing using live bunker to catch large Stripers and Bluefish. This method allows you to hook, fight, and land the fish one on one with lighter tackle. Trolling with heavy equipment and fighting the water and the boat is not my preferred method of fishing. If bait is not available we Trip picwill use traditional drift methods with buck tails and diamond jigs. We also can employ casting with top water and soft plastics for exciting light tackle action. If you want to bring home the best tasting fish the sound has to offer you can choose to spend the entire trip targeting bottom fish. The delicious Sea Bass fishing has been outstanding the last few years with limits being caught on a regular basis. Summer Flounder (Fluke) are plentiful and surprisingly hard fighting. Scup (Porgies) and Blackfish (Fall season) are so plentiful it is usually non-stop action with bites occurring as soon as the bait hits the bottom! This type of fishing is relaxing, action packed, and fun for the whole family.
