Hit the water just after 0630 this morning. Northeast breeze, so I worked the east and northeast shore of one of my favorite Upper Cape Ponds. Worked rocky drop offs close to shore. The bite was on big time. Ended up with 8 fish total and lost 3 more when they jumped and threw the hook. 7 Smallmouth of which 5 were between 2 and 2.5 lbs. and 1 4 lb. 1 oz largemouth that pulled my boat almost in a complete circle.

Decided to go out during the day today. I didn't have high expectations. A cold front had just moved through, it was sunny, breezy, and warm, and the water level was way down. Not ideal conditions. I launched around 0930 and for the 1st hour and a half it was dead. I made my way around to the northwest side of the pond and got out of the wind. I cast near some cover and caught a small largemouth. Felt a little better now I wasn't skunked. Next cast, another largemouth. Bigger then the 1st one but still under a pound. Then I see a splash about 15 feet from shore near a rocky ledge. I know its a smallmouth. I cast a senko over near it. A few quick twitches and fish on! I land a 2lb smallmouth. Next cast a little further up shore and boom. Another 2lb smallmouth. I finished the day with a 24" pickerel. Not bad for the conditions.

Took my wife and 5 year old daughter out for a few hours and had the best morning of fishing ever. Between the 3 of us, we caught 22 fish! 15 Largemouth, 6 yellow perch, and my first ever white perch. All but 2 of the largemouth were 2 lbs or larger, with (2) 3 lbs and my wife won the day with a 4 lb LM. It was pretty cool to watch my 5 year old reel in a 3 lb LM.

Took a trip to Hamblins Pond after work. My main target was smallmouth bass. I brought my fly rod to practice a little since I have not had much success fly fishing. Trout started hitting the surface, so I decided to give it a try. After what seemed like a long time, I gave up and put the fly rod down. I left the bead head wooly bugger in the water drifting about 10' behind the boat and went back to casting a crankbait. All of a sudden, my fly rod is sliding across the boat. I pick it up and fish on. After a battle that lasted over 5 minutes, I landed the biggest trout I have every caught. 19" 3 lb rainbow.

Headed out tonight to our secret spot. My last 3 trips to some of the bigger ponds have been unsuccessful, so decided to head to the small honey hole. Curse broken. Hit the water around 6pm with my wife. Slow start. Things started to pick up around 7pm. By 8pm we had pulled in 14 Largemouth. Mostly dinks, but a few 1 1/2-2 lbers. Started with lizards and switched to senkos for the first time ever. They went nuts for the senkos.

Went out at 0600 looking for smallmouth. Fished for about an hour on the southern end at the drop off. No luck. Moved into the edges around fallen trees using plastics. Caught a 2lb largemouth on 1st cast. Followed by a 5 1/2 lb beast. Great day!
