went fishing in N.H. on the Pemigwasset River(pardon the spelling) and caught my first smallmouth bass. It was over 4 lbs. Pictures to follow at a later date. This was on Labor Day Weekend. |

Happy New Years all. My new years resolution is to catch a 5 lb smallie this year. sorry about not gettin back to u sooner... now to ur questions..well theres a couple different kinda hooks u can use just for them.. with trout ur gonna wanta use a smaller hook cause well they r smaller fish... and with pike ur gonna use bigger hooks cause there bigger.. and it all just depends on what kinda bait ur goin to b useing... with bass pretty much and kinda soft plastic well work... just cast into weeds or lillypads.. and work slow ... trout all i do is split a worm in two take half and thread it on the hook and jig it in some of the deeper pools ... and for pike.. well ill use bigger spoons, hardbaits, rooster tails, or big shiners... well i hope that kinda helps u out abit.. let me know |

Anthony I truly apologize for not getting back with you. I'm on vacation with my family in Louisiana and I've just been busy. I know yourtrip is over but I haven"t had a lot of luck in the delaware lately. I usually go out of Curtins Marina and fish in a few spots from the Tacony Bridge to the Florence Public Boat Ramp but have only haven't caught anything to talk about since the early spring. Funny thing, I went out last Saturday and my 13 year old son caught a maybe 14 inch catfish. My dad didn't get on the boat cuz I forgot his lifejacket and when I got back, he was holding 1 huge cat and 2 others bigger than my son's. To be fair, I haven't changed anything. I only used nightcrawlers and chicken livers. While here in Louisiana, I went on a boat charter and caught some redfish and "spec" or what we call "weakfish." The charter captain gave me a lot of suggestions and even gave me some lures to try after I return home. Anyway, if you went, let me know if you caught anything or any other trips that you've had or planning. Have a great summer. James H |

I fished both. This time of year, I would recommend the Delaware River. If you wait until after Labor Day, because of all the boat traffic, Lake Hopatcong will definitely hook you some fish. The last time I went there, I caught 8 different species of fish. |

Don't use much live bait, more artifical. For bass I fish mostly w/ gulp plastics usually hook weighted. been trying to work on my carolina rig technique though. the new crankbaits with the square short bills are becoming a fav. not much pike fishing. pickerel thought, timber doodle w/ twin tailed grub, gulp and yammamota my personal fav. trout is about my only live bait freshwater fishing. meal worms and wax worms. cp swing and mepps algia in both gold and silver, all metal versions(no paint on blade). rooster tails in black, red, and silver. also, very small rapala, neutral boyouncy, black/ silver, gold/silver, rainbow trout colors are good for browns. been trying some plastic grubs in various colors w/ some success. how about you, what are some of your favorites? where do you pike fish at? always wanted to catch one of those toothy critters though. you saltwater fish at all? hope its helpful. |

I know if you wait until October, try Round Valley Reservoir in Lebanon, NJ. I went to the Rockaway River this April and there were plenty of trout but all 12 to 14 inches. |

What bait don't I use is the answer.At different times different baits work..It depends on the seaqson and the situation. |

Hey Anthony, I don't know where to start, there are hundreds of different hooks to use for different applications and species for different baits. My best advice would be to start with one, like the largemouth. Read as much as you can about there habitat, where and when the feed, spawn. If you learn about what your going after first, you will be much better at it. Let me know if I can help anymore. That's why this site is so great. |
