Stock in to Round valley reservoir, in D&R canal. Specifying exact place - these fish constantly moving around so you need to cham for them. Use oatmeal, and plain bread crumbs. hooks # 10, 12,14,16 ... 4lb line. (i use 2lb) tiny shy bait floats from Thill.

Comment: If you are a New England angler, you must have gold lures on hand. This species is probably the number 1 forage for northern predators.

Comment: Traditionally sold as bait (for bass, pickerel, pike, etc.), they CAN be caught on rod & reel, and with an ultralight or a fly rod, they're fun to catch, especially if you can find an area where 'big' [6" or more] ones are present.

When I was a kid, I grew up along the Sudbury River, in Framingham; my friends and I often caught golden shiners while fishing (mostly with worms or small doughballs) for, really ANYTHING, that happened to bite our line. Some of those shiners were 7-8" long. Had we been older & wiser, we would've put one on a big hook, with a bobber, and thrown it out there for a big bass or hungry pickerel, but what i I know then - I was just a kid!
