4th & last tournament for this trail this year. My usual spot as co-angler. Very low turn-out for the last one...7 boat, 7 co-anglers. Lots of small fish. Caught them all day long, just not much size. Caught probably 20 Bass anyway. My boater had a 5 fish limit @ 7.80lbs (4th place boater), and I had a 3 fish limit @ 3.37lbs (4th place co-angler). Boater side 13.47lbs won, and 6.64lbs on the non-boater side.

Overall this year I have felt sub-par, but consistent. I finished tied for 3rd overall, after finishing 2nd the past 3 years. Always looking for to better. Never satisfied.

Lake Nippenicket - Bridgewater, MA
6/25/2016

Back at the end of the Avid Anglers made our first visit to Nippenicket as a club, 2nd for me personally. Bluebird skies, a high pressure weather system, and very little wind made the fish very skittish and hard to find. Also my boater had big motor issues that had him very distracted most of the day. I tried to keep focused. After 10am, my boater gave me control of the trolling motor. Some non-keepers between us sporadically through out the morning. Wind picked up 12:30, so I started throwing a spinnerbait over some grass. Finally get a keeper at about 1:30pm. I had a better one come off by the boat about a half hour later. At about 2:30pm my boater finally gets one too. No shut out! Very tough day, but staying focused was the key. My 1 Largemouth @ 1.36lbs gave me 7th place out of 10.

On a side note this Tournament was the last of the "2016" season for the club, and I was able to get the Co-Angler of the Year for the 2nd time in 3 years.

3rd Nation tournament of the season. 1st time here for me. Usual spot as co-angler (3 fish limit). Fished with a nice guy named Kory. I caught 4 Largemouth, and 1 Smallmouth early on...but they were all shorts...11-3/4"...Rain showed up at noontime, and then came the winds. That when I started chucking a spinnerbait. 1st keeper Largemouth finally at 1:30pm, and 2 more by 2:30pm to finish my limit. Unfotunately there wasn't much size for me as my total weight was 3lbs 13oz giving me 9th place out of 9 co-anglers. There was only 1-3/4lbs between me and 2nd place. Happy I caught my limit, but certainly not satisfied. On a side not my Denali Lithium Spinnerbait rod feels friggin awesome!!

CLub Tourney here last month. Spawn tourney, but the cold front played a role in the tougher bite. Lot's of small fish around. I caught about 20 Smallmouth on Senkos, and a dropshot. My limit was only 6.11lbs, with my biggest @ 2.30lbs giving me 8th place. 1st place was 16.09lbs, with a 6.43lb Largemouth Lunker! Total beast!

Joined my friend Robbie, his Dad, Uncle, and 2 cousins for a 4 hour Striper trip with Triton Sportfishing out of Orleans, MA. The bite down the Cape is great right now with the Striper migrating north. 25-30 fish to the boat all by trolling. Biggest was Cousin Brian's 42". Several keepers for everyone in the 37" to 30" range. I caught 6 total with 2 keepers, and 4 schoolies. My keepers were a fat 33", and a new personal best 37". What a great trip. I would highly recommend this time of year with Capt Steve & Mate John with Triton Sportfishing.

2nd Nation Tournament of the season. Spawn Tournament can always be extremely tough from the back of the boat. I got paired with, now new friend, Collin. Water temps were high 50's. Harwich was pretty calm today, which was different. Bite was bad the 1st half of the day. Lot's of bedding fish, but also some cruisers too. Collin had a limit @ 12.35lbs and that was only good for 10th on the boater side. 4th @ 18.30lbs, 3rd @ 18.34lbs, 2nd @ 18.45lbs, and 1st was 19.89lbs including a Smallmouth lunker @ 5lbs.
I finished with my 3 fish limit @ 6.20lbs and 7th place. I had one good Smallmouth @ 3.20lbs, but my other two were only 2lbs & 1lb. On the Co-Angler side (3 Fish limit) 3rd was 10.29lbs, 2nd was 10.58lbs including a Smallmouth lunker @ 5.24lbs, and 1st was 11.61lbs. Some awesome fish brought to the scales today!!

1st club tournament of the year. Brutal cold front had moved in, and that made for a tough bite. The gusty winds at times did not help. I was paired with my bud Mikey. He made a bait & a cadence change the scored big for him. I made a change to, but wasn't as sucessful as him. He finished with a limit @ 16.03lb anchored by a nice 4.76lb Largemouth. 2nd was a limit @ 11.33lbs, and 3rd was a limit @ 10.30lbs including a 5.16lb Largemouth for Lunker. I finished with 2 Largemouth & 1 Smallmouth @ 4.04lb good for 7th place.

***Been crazy busy with work/life, so just catching up on some outings***
1st Nation Tourney of the season had a low turnout. 13 Boaters, and 8 Co-Anglers. New this year is Co-Angler limit is reduced to 3 fish...Not really excited about this change, but it is what is it. Cold, Windy day with watertemps in the high 40's if I recall. I was paired with The Lunkerman, Sheron K. Brown. The bite was terrible...All day! We threw the hell out the jerkbait. We both finished with 1 fish each. Sheron with a Smallmouth, and I had a Largemouth. That 1 Largemouth was 1.78lbs, and gave me 5th place. Not the results I wanted, but valuable point regardless.

My club the Avid Anglers hosted our 12th annual Easter Bunny Open at Long Pond Harwich. I fished with my buddy Paul. The last couple years we have done pretty good. Not this year, Paul had our only fish with a 2.51lb Smallie. That gave us 16th place out of 23 teams. As always though somebody finds them! Check out the video I put together for this event on my YouTube page. Stay tuned till the end to see the top 5 results!

A couple weeks ago Chuck & I took advantage of some warmer weather for a trip to the cape. The 1st stop yielded no signs of life after 2 hours,do we pulled and head to the next stop. Stop 2 showed a little scattered life, but only one fish between the 2 of us. It was 3-1/2lb Smallie out of 35ft of water. Nice one for the 1st of the year. Football head jig, water temps were 37-38 degrees. I did get a new gopro courtesy of my girlfriend, so I was able to get some footage. Hope you like the video!

A couple weeks ago, got the text at 730pm the night before from my buddy Fred asking if I wanted to fish this with him. Damn straight I do! I had never fish there, but that's ok, I like new places. 14 boats total showed. Day started fairly calm and a humid 50 degrees. Winds would build though out the day with a raw temps behind them. Bite was tough. Jerkbait wasn't getting what I wanted, and same with the rattletrap. We each caught 5 bass but only 2 keepers (15oz, and 1-1/4lbs) for Fred, and only 1 keeper for me (1-3/4lbs) on the drop shot. Our 3 @ 3.96lbs put us in 10th place. Not the results we wanted, but bonus time fishing in December, I'll take it!

Chuck and I hit up one of the pond X's on Sunday. We fished from about 7:30am-1pm. Wind was supposed to get bad after 10pm, but it stayed managable. Early calm I was hoping for a topwater bite, but no dice. Switched to a soft swimbait and game on! 1st fish of the day crushed it, nice 5lber. Overall we caught a lot of Bass, about 30 each. Chuck's best weighed in at 4lbs 2oz, on the jig I think. The swimbait did well early on, spinnerbait did ok, jig, shakey head, etc. I take this any day, nevermind in November!!

Catching up on a trip from a couple weeks ago. Between a new job, and work around the house my fishing time has been extremely limited. Anyway, this was most likely my last tournament of the season. A severe cold front began passing through the previous day. Reports had water temps in the 58-62 degree range and calm winds until about 10am. After that it kicked up to 10-20mph and made fishing even tougher. My usual spot as co-angler had me paired with my bud Fred, who I've fished with many times at this point. The day started slow, but around 9am I was throwing a topwater and had 3 keepers in about 15 minutes. 30 minutes later I got #4 on a dropshot. about 10am I had my limit on a senko. A while later I culled a 1lber for a 1-1/2lber, and toward the end of the day I culled another 3/4lber for a 1lb 6oz. Overall no monsters, but about 12 Largemouth all day, and 1 Pickeral. Fred made a late charge to fill his limit and narrowly edge me out. In fact places 1 through 5 were only separated by 0.92lbs. I finished 5th with a limit @ 6.09lbs. 4th was 4 fish for 6.55lbs, including the tournament lunker @ 3.09lbs. Fred was 3rd with a limit @ 6.90lbs. 2nd was a limit @ 6.93lbs. 1st was a limit @ 7.01lbs.

4 team got together for this. It was the Chuck show without a doubt though, and I had a front row seat for it. I was also lip b**** cause he didn't have a net in the boat. Jigs, jigs, jigs.
Chuck put a limit of 17lbs 10oz together including a 5lb 12oz lunker. I caught 3 shorts, and miss 2 other bites. North Shore had a limit for 5lbs 4oz, Brenden and his son Riley had 2 fish for 3lbs 13oz, and Evan and his son Andrew had 4 fish for 3lbs 2oz.

Really limited where we could go. On the water at 6:30am, off by 10:30am. We finished with 1 flounder each at about 10 inches. Still fun times as always!

With just starting a new job last month, I'm behind I'm posting a couple trips. So last month the Angry Landlords squared off against team North Shore for a "loser buys burgers" challenge. There bite was steady for the most part. Jigs, and worms got most of Chuck and I's fish. Chuck set the pace with two 5-1/4lbers, and a 4-1/2lber. I had a 3-1/2lber, and a 2.1lber was our smallest. lots 2lb-1-1/2lbers. North Shore had there limit for close to 9lbs, we had 20lbs 9oz. Burgers were delicious!

TOC day, and not much was different on the water except the timing of the tides. I was paired with boater Jay, who I've fished with before. Jay finished 4th overall on the boater side this year. It would prove to be an extremely tough day for most, even for some of the guys that knew the place. Jay had his only fish of the day about 1/2 way through, a 2-1/2lber. I has two fish early. First was 11-3/4" short, the other was 3.44lbs. I threw that jig all day. That 3.44lber was the Co-angler Lunker, and gave me 4th place. The 3 ahead of me had 2 fish each, 3rd @ 3.38lbs, 2nd @ 3.72lbs, 1st was 4.90lbs. On the boaters side 2nd has 4 fish @ 11+lbs and a 3.99lb Lunker, 1st had 14+lbs. Place has quality fish, but not a lot a quantity. Looking forward to next years trail!

This the location for the BASS Nation TOC this year. I have never been, nevermind even thought of this place for a fishing location. Regardless I'm always up for a challenge. My buddy John and I put in a 13 hours (5am-6pm). Access & parking is limited. Water clarity is terrible, stained brown. The tidal effect is dramatic, fluctuates a good 5ft anyway, and the current rips pretty good at times. It was an extremely tough day, half way through we had nothing to show for it. After throwing many different baits, I changed to a Black Boag Hog Baits Brush Jig/Chigger Craw combo. Finally that helps us to start to figure it out as a nice fat 4-1/2lber pounded my jig! John would finish the day with a handful of 1-3/4lbers-2lbers. I would also pick up a 2lb 13oz, and another 2lber before we headed off. All fish showed signs of eating well, bellies on all of them.

Lake Winnipesaukee, NH
7/24/2015 - 7/26/2015

Winnipesaukee was the location for the Avid Anglers annual out of state 2 day tournament. We launched out of States Landing which is close to Lees Mill. I've been here one other time back in 2011. Definitely different from back then. I suspect between the extra long winter and chemical treatments the grass & cabbage have been destroyed. To touch on the extra long winter some more, the fish showed signs of recently finishing up the spawn. Lots of bloody tails, realistically they maybe finished up 3 weeks or so ago. Very much still in spawn recovery. Anyways, I look forward to these trips, in a great way to build the friendships outside of the boat too.

Friday 7/24 was practice day. I met my buddy Dave at the ramp, who I was also paired with on day 1. We fished from about 7:30am - 4pm. We started with looking for a Largemouth bite, boy was that dismal. After a couple hours and not much to show for it, we went looking for Smallmouth. We found some areas that were holding bait and fish. Nothing outstanding, but we caught some. Tried for some more Largemouth before we pulled, waste of time. My totals on the day were 6 Smallmouth (4 Keepers) 4 Largemouth all shorts, and 5 Pickerel. Dropshot, and C-rig got the better fish on this day.

Day 1 - Saturday 7/25 - Paired with Dave we would hit must the Smallmouth spots from the day before. Change in wind direction didn't help the bite, and the boat traffic up there is rediculous on the weekends. The start of the day was coming for topwater. I got a Smallmouth a little over a lb on the a River2Sea rover early on, and Dave got his only keeper of the day on a topwater too, a nice 3lb Largemouth. Later I would get a 3/4lb, and a 1.47lb on the dropshot. That was it, 3 Smallies @ 3.36lbs.

Day 2 - Sunday 7/26 - Paired with the new guy Jeff. We both had 1 each fairly early, him first with what would day Largemouth Lunker of the day (4.17) on a swimbait on a jighead, and me a 1.66lb Smallie on topwater. About 11am I got my last fish of the day a 1-1/2lb Largemouth in 20ft of water on the dropshot. The rest of the day Jeff would get a couple more good Largemouth on a T-rig worm, and couple topwater Smallies to fill his limit, and 1 more Largemouth to cull a Smallmouth at the end of the day.

Fun to be on the big lake although fishing did not go my way. I finished 11th out 12 with a 2 day total of 6.47lbs. Hopefully this experience will help out the next time I'm up there. 1st place was 20.34lbs

This was the 3rd of 3 tournaments on this trail for 2015. Up for grabs at tourneys end was AOY, CAOY, Top 10 Boater/Co-Angler qualifications, and a spot on the MA B.A.S.S. Nation State Team for next year to the top Boater, and Co-Angler.

My usual spot as co-angler, I was paired with Earl. I meet Earl 4 years ago when I started fishing this trail, but this was the 1st time we had been paired. Weather was tough from the get go. Blue bird skies, sun blazing, very little wind. 5 casts in I have a keeper in the boat on a swimbait, and then nothing until Earl gets his 1st at about 10pm, and another about an hour later. About 12:30 with the sun blazing away we decided it was time to fish docks, and pontoons. I got 3 more from about 1 to 2:15, and Earl got his limit. It was a hot tough grind of a day. I fished clean though, catching all 4 keepers that bit. Winning Co-angler had 8+lbs. My 4 Largemouth @ 4.77lbs put me in 8th place. That left me 2 points shy of Co-Angler Of Year & State Team spot...bummer. Winning boater had 12+lbs.

Well, if I said I wasn't disappointed I would be lying, but to look the positive side I've finished in 2nd place overall co-angler 3 years in a row. Also qualifying for the TOC all 4 years. I'm happy that my consistency is better, and thought process on the water is improving. I'm not satisfied though, as there is always room for growth.

So I was looking to change that, and understand the lake a little better. I heading out with my buddy John who also fish the trail. I fished a bunch area. We caught bunch of fish different ways. John's best 5 was about 10lbs. I caught 8 Largemouth, with my best 5 at about 7-1/4lbs. Some on various swimbaits, Prop bait, and spinnerbait.

We had 3 teams get together for a winner take all car topper battle today at a new undisclosed body of water for most of us. It was a slimey mud pit, but the the fishing action was decent. I fished with Chuck, and it took us a while to get going. Pickerel were very active, a the bass were small to start. We had a small limit by 10. The swimjig, and spinnerbait were pickerel magnets, and the jig was being mostly small fish. I started throwing a senko and a short time later I get a 3lber. Make a move, 4lber. Chuck grab another 3lber on a jig. Late in the day I get a 1-3/4lber to gain a 1/4lb. Chuck says "I making the call" and we move to one last area that we didn't give much time to. about 10 minutes to go a make senko gets drilled. Work it to the boat, nice 3-1/4lber to cull out another one close to 1-3/4lbs. Nice upgrade. That was a wrap. Below are the results.

Angry Landlords - 5 Fish @ 15lbs - Big Fish @ 4lbs
Happy Hookers - 5 Fish @ 12lbs 13oz - Big Fish 3lb 13oz
R & R - 5 Fish @ 9lbs 13oz - Big Fish @ 4lbs

Nice job fellas! Good time as usual!
