Scoville Reservoir Bowfin

at the end of march ill begin targeting bowfin at scoville reservoir again. by starting earlier, i may avoid the horrible weed problem i encounter in late spring /summer. anyone interested in catching a prehistoric relic with ridiculous strength is welcome to join me.

Bowfin Breeding Spot Catch

  • Bait Details: usually top water baits invoke strikes over here. senkos and fin-s type baits work well too but only before the big milfoil bloom. after that they get so bogged down with weeds the fish cant even get at them.
  • Location Details: this is the shallowest weediest part of the pond. both bass and bowfin lurk around over here, but the bowfin choose to breed over here, true to their nature. even of they hit your bait, its tough to get a hookset unless you have very sharp hooks and there arent too many weeds between the fish's mouth and your bait.
