  • i caught my personal best bass here back in '05. it was 23", and 5.3 lbs..she wasnt too healthy, she was definitely thin. prolly shouldve been 7 lbs if she was healthy. since then, the reservoir has been drained. the town of Wolcott has drained the reservoir many times to get rid of introduced fish species, such as the bowfin. bowfin arent terribly destructive to the ecosystem, considering all the invasives that are already there. ive caught rock bass white perch smallmouth and seen coy on several occasions. honestly i think bowfin should be considered the king of freshwater gamefish simply because of its amazing strength and fighting prowess, not to mention its the very last surviving member of the Amiidae order of fishes., it can breathe air using its swim bladder..which is why they havent been able to get rid of it. not as adept at hibernation as lungfish, of course. all that aside fishing here has declined in quality since the last draining..bass are stunted due to intense fishing pressure. pickerel are still abundant and the bowfin are still there, but are a fairly rare catch, as they can be finnicky eaters in open water. Thye prefer the thickest unfishable slop one could imagine. i know where they breed in the pond..but even if the fish explode on topwater weedless lures, the weeds prevent a hookset.ive only caught one once.. it was when i was 7. been pursuing them since.

Scovill Reservoir Baits and Tackle

Worm Check Prices

  • Rattlin Ned by Googan Squad on a Texas Rig

Frog Bait Check Prices

  • usually top water baits invoke strikes over here. senkos and fin-s type baits work well too but only before the big milfoil bloom. after that they get so bogged down with weeds the fish cant even get at them.

Scovill Reservoir Description

(121 acres) Species: (T LMB S) Season: Open 6:00 am 3rd Saturday April-last day February. Other: Operation of boats prohibited from sunset to sunrise. Use of motors, except electric, prohibited It has a small back pond that has a small inlet you can go a little ways up and if you feel like bushwhacking a little you can get into another small but very neat area just before going up the inlet on the right. To get to these areas you have to go through a short tunnel under the road. Heading back to the main body of water and staying near the shoreline it's shallow enough to see plenty of underwater activity by the fish and some are pretty good size mind you! Talked to some kid who was telling me he took a 5 pounder out but released it to give someone else some fun. Lots of little coves that just are begging to be checked out. From north Rte 69S to Nichols Rd go left at boat launch sign and follow around to bear left on Woodtick Rd short distance later take left onto Scoville Rd. From South (Waterbury) take 69 N and take a right on Nichols Rd. just follow the boat launch signs.
