On the water before day break this morning. Plan was to head over to Plum Island, but found breaking fish just south of Black Point. It took a while to figure out what the fish were feeding on as I was battting zero for the first half hour or so while fish blitzed all around my boat. Finally was able to see that the bait were butterfish about the size of a quarter. Luckily, I had a few butterfish patterns and the stripers accepted the counterfeit. Fish were all in the 24 to 28 inch range. Did hook a couple that were a tad over 30 inches. About 8AM as the tide was about an hour away from full low, the surface action died. I continued blind casting at the edge of the rip and picked up a couple more stripers including the best fish of the morning a 34 incher.
Saved fuel by not running all the way to the Sliuceway and back at the dock before 9am.
