GROTON—

At least one person is missing from a boat that overturned after striking a rock in Long Island Sound Sunday afternoon, a spokesman for the U.S. Coast Guard said.

Authorities believe 10 people were aboard the 50-foot vessel that was bound for Noank Shipyard.

Around 3 p.m. the U.S. Coast Guard received a distress call from the boat, which overturned just north of West Harbor near Fisher's Island, N.Y. Nine of the 10 people aboard the craft were found unharmed by a good Samaritan.

I'm sorry, but all due respect to the one fatality, there is NO good reason to go back to a sinking vessel, except, MAYBE, to save a fellow passanger (maybe)!

I don't get it. It seems that every other week there are one of these wrecks on LIS with a really bad ending. I know I am always looking over my shoulder out there with my little 21 footer. If anything it seems the larger craft seem to be having more issues. I guess we should all keep an eye out for the other guy.
