Meredith Rotary Club's annual Winnipesaukee Ice-fishing Derby Weekend is Feb. 7-8. You can download the registration form at www.meredithrotary.com The price for the weekend tournament is still $30. This year's prizes include an 18-foot Pioneer Sport fiberglass boat with a Tidewater trailer; a Honda Model Fourtrax Rancher 4x4 and a Karavan two-place trailer; a deluxe ice-fishing package that includes a portable Bob House, fishing gear, auger and other goodies, including many cash prizes. The total prize and money give-a-way totals $62,000.

All that for $30. Sounds like a fun weekend to me.

The Sebago Lake Togue Fishing Derby will be held on Feb. 21-22. The cost is $30 for an individual and $50 for a kid pack, which includes two parents and up to six kids under 18.

A kids' beginner derby will be held Feb. 20 from noon to 3 p.m. on Thomas Pond in Casco. Five-hundred beginners, 12 and under, will be given a free ice-fishing rig. There is no charge to participants, but donations will be accepted.

Each year, the Sebago Lake Rotary Club hosts the Ice Fishing Derby Festival on Sebago Lake. Designed as a fish management project in 2001, the DerbyFest has grown into a significant winter event impacting local charities, regional tourism and the local economy. The Ice Fishing Derby is a major fund-raiser that benefits such charities as Camp Sunshine, DARE, Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Maine Children's Cancer Program along with many others. The event has grown into a nationally recognized event with one publication naming it amongst the top 10 Ice Fishing Derbies in the country.

You can download an application at www.iceFishingDerby.com.

Their projected prize pool, combined with the Statewide Derby on March 8 and 9, is approximately $60,000 to $70,000.

But this is more than a fishing contest as there are activities going on all the time. Those include cookouts, ice racing, free skating, dog sled rides, snowboard exhibitions, their famous "Ice Mall" with winter goods from furs to sporting goods, Ice Sculpture miniature golf, Ice Sculpture photo shop, food, food and more food, along with beverages of all types. The Sebago Lake Winter Fly-in will include helicopter rides and balloon rides.

All events inside point Sebago require a $5 per adult admission fee. Children are $1.

So, do you still think this is just an ice-fishing derby?

Think again, "Baitman." This is an "Affair to Remember," a "Weekend In The Country" at Sebago, "Caddy Ice-Shack" on the frozen lake and "Grumpy Old Men," all rolled into one. Don't miss it.

So who's coming with me???
