While looking for stripers and albies in the Millstone area last Fall my buddy and I saw activity on top around a huge rock. I cast a chartreuse and white clouser and got hit really hard by what turned out to be a 16"
humpback porgy. We had a blast hooking 16" and 17" fish. We were set up for other game ,9' 10wt rods, but agreed that large porgies fought like smallmouth bass. Porgies like this on a 7 wt would be a great fight.
Hey all my buddies agree that pound for pound porgies are one of the strongest fish out there and if they ever grew to 10lbs they would be a sought after game fish. |
