The Mattabassett River aka the Sebethe offers a very good carp fishery. From the dam in Berlin to the Cromwell Meadows WMA carp are abundant and offer excelelnt sport. I primarily fly fish using a 7wt outfit, floating line, 0X leader and brown, black or rootbeer wooly buggers. As soon as the flooding disapates look for buglemouths in the shallows. Over the past 7 years, I have targeting thses fish a couple of times a season. Fish average 7 to 10 pounds, but there are plenty of bigger bruts. The fishing is very much like bonefish, requiring stealth.
Some of rhew access is private, but we have had good luck securing permission to fish. Anyone with a kayak or canoe can do really well getting into the lower reaches of the river.
