first day of spring is upon us. goin to get licesne this weekend. wanna go for pike or smallies from shore. any suggestions?

You should be able to hook up with pike on the CT river. Look at a map or aerial shots of the river and follow any tributaries with your finger. If your finger finds a marshy/shallow area that isn't too far then give it shot. Water being drained from these areas will be warm(er) than the main river. Pike will zero in on these warmer temps and follow them out of the river and into the marshes to spawn. Try the marsh, stem, and mouth of the tributary along with the main river in close proximity to the tributary (especially downstream of it). My last pike came from the mouth of the Hockanum River. You can use this same method for other pike locales such as Bantam, Mansfield, and Pachaug. Spend time at warm, shallow waters, preferably with emergent vegetation.
