How are you planning to fish? Surf, boat (size?). The Long Island Sound is chock full of blues right now, w/ fish into the teens. When I fish in my small skiff (same for yakers), I go out of the Niantic or Stonington launches. From Niantic I usually fish from Black Point (small rip right off the point) over towards Harkness. Bartlett's Reef usually holds lots of blues and stripers and is safe for small boats/kayaks. Stonington (Barn Island launch) has tons of areas in Fishers Island sound that you will find blues. Larger boats often fish the rips like The Race between Race Rock(lighthouse) and Little Gull (lighthouse), the Sluiceway between Big Gull and Plum Gut between Plum Island and Orient Point. Anywhere around these locations you can find blues and bass. If you fish the rips, be aware of the conditions that go from flat calms at slack tide to conditions that can (and do) swamp small craft as the tides increase. For surf fishing, there is good public access at Hammonaset Park (evenings only) and Harkness State Park (gate closes at dark-park outside). Hope this gets you started. I know others will chime in. Feel free to ask more questions or message me. The following links are nav charts of all of these places.
