Hatteras, NC Fishing Report

Marlin Hunt With Ya'Mamma

Fished out of Pirates Cove, Manteo off Cape Hatteras, NC for marlin. Went out on Ya'Mamma with my brother Doug, hoping to make up for a previous trip the summer before that was blown out. While I've grown up fishing salt water, this was my first real trip targetting specifically marlin. Thirty minutes after our run out to the edge of the Gulf Stream, Doug was hooked into a nice white marlin that he brought along side in about 20 minutes. No sooner than we had reset our spread, a second fish was spotted. It crashed the bait and I had my first marlin on the line. This fish decided to go deep, and for 45 minutes I lost line and gained nothing. Finally turning the tide, in 10 minutes I regained much of what was taken out. Thinking the fight pretty close to finished, I was a bit demoralized when the fish again went down undoing all my gains. This second run also took it out of the fish, and after 15 more minutes I had a 350lb. blue marlin along side. Needless to say, I was stoked, and I hope my first marlin lived to fight another day.
