Congamond Lakes Description

CONGAMOND LAKES (South Pond, Middle Pond, and North Pond), Suffield – Massachusetts (465 acres) Note: Connecticut or Massachusetts fishing license is legal on all three lakes.Located on the northwestern boundary of Suffield, the eastern shore of South Pond and Middle Pond forms the boundary with Southwick, Massachusetts. Suffield was first settled in 1636 but only became a part of Connecticut in 1749. For those first 113 years; it was claimed by the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Connecticut acquired Suffield by a compromise resulting in the famous "Southwick Jog", that odd piece of geography that sticks down into Connecticut, spoiling an otherwise straight northern boundary between the two states. The lakes provide opportunities for boating, canoeing, fishing, and swimming. Babbs Beach, located on approximately ten acres at Congamond Lakes, includes 400 feet of beachfront, as well as picnic and playground facilities. The Southwick shore is more commercially developed and offers a marina, restaurants, bait shops, sport leasing and rental shops. Species: (T LMB BB YP CP AE S) Massachusetts regulations apply as follows: Season: open year-round. Trout: Daily creel limit-3 Bass: Daily creel limit-5, 12” minimum length. Chain pickerel: Daily creel limit-5, 15” minimum length. Other: Not more than two hooks may be used during periods of open water fishing and not more than five hooks may be used when ice fishing.
